Limestone is an organic, sedimentary rock. It was formed from the remains of tiny shells, micro-skeletons and marine organisms deposited on the seabed. It’s made up of calcium carbonate and is formed in layers, is readily available and relatively easy to cut into blocks or more elaborate carving. It is also long-lasting and stands up well to exposure.
